Originally, they were going to open the summer of 2002, but around the first of March 2001, decided to throw caution to the wind and just go for it. They drew up some good policies and procedures, and with tremendous support from the community, flew by the seat of their pants. They were as much amazed as anyone that they actually pulled it off. Now, armed with the lessons learned from our experience, planning for each season begins in January.
Please meet our founders and our original Farmers' Market Advisory Board. Starting in the back and proceeding in a clockwise direction are Shelly Bowe, C.A.R.E./market grant writer; Lori Collinsworth, St. Vincent de Paul/market secretary; Chris Kell, volunteer market manager; Barbara Bush, TBCC Biz Center/market vice-chair; and Sally Clay, Director, Tillamook Downtown Association/market treasurer. Not pictured is Doug Henson, Body & Sole Sport Shop. He took the reigns as market chairman and did a really good job of keeping the rest of us focused on one thing at a time. (His name is on the white piece of paper Chris is holding up--if you look really close, you--never mind--it would take a Hubble telescope to make it out.)
Current officers and board members can be found on the "Friends of the Market" page.
